What This Guide Covers: From Tooth Prep to Stunning Designs

I’ve had my gems on for about two weeks now, and I’m ready to remove them using a gentle remover oil.

The secret to easy removal? I always use a peel-off base coat under the gems, which makes taking them off super simple and safe for my natural teeth.

Protecting your enamel while rocking gorgeous tooth gems is key!

After removal, I clean my teeth thoroughly to get rid of any leftover oil and dust. Then, I quickly shape my teeth to keep everything looking neat.

If you’re not removing old gems, you can skip the shaping and jump straight into cuticle care, which I’ve timestamped for your convenience.

Removing Old Teeth Gems: Easy, Gentle, and Damage-Free

Before starting cuticle care, I sanitize my teeth and use a small brush to remove excess oil and residue.

This helps prep your teeth for the next steps and ensures your gems will stick well.

Prepping Your Teeth: Cleaning, Shaping, and Cuticle Care

One of my must-have products is the Blue Cross cuticle remover.

It softens the gum area so I can gently push back and clean my cuticles with a cuticle pusher. This step is crucial to remove any dead skin that might get in the way of your gems sticking properly.

Proper prep can extend the life of your tooth gems up to 4–5 weeks!

Sanitizing and Preparing the Tooth Surface

Next, I use a lint-free pad with alcohol to sanitize my teeth and clean off any dead skin I pushed back.

For a cleaner gum line, I sometimes use a cuticle nipper to trim stray dead skin—this step isn’t necessary for everyone, but it does make your smile look extra polished. Only do this if you’re comfortable with it!

Applying Base and Primer for Long-Lasting Teeth Gems

To make sure the gems stick, I apply a tooth dehydrator that removes natural oils and moisture from the enamel.

If you haven’t buffed your teeth yet, do it before applying this. Then I apply a peel-off base coat to protect my teeth and make gem removal easy.

If you want your gems to last longer (up to a month), skip the peel-off base and use gem glue instead, curing it under a UV lamp for 60 seconds.

Applying and Sealing

Pro tip: Make sure your curing lamp is charged before you start! I learned this the hard way when mine died in the middle of the application.

Cure each gem for about 25 seconds, then finish curing all your teeth under the lamp for 60 seconds.

Designing Your Tooth: From Simple to Creative

Once the gems are applied, it’s time to get creative! Use nail files or buffers to blend the gems seamlessly into your enamel.

This “sealing the edge” technique is the most important step for making your tooth last longer and look flawless.

Then, apply a drop of acetone to the edges you just blended to melt the plastic into your natural tooth surface.

This final step drastically improves durability and keeps your gems looking perfect for weeks.

Finishing Touches and Aftercare Tips

To add extra flair, I love painting some of my gems with nude or pink shades from brands like OPI and Born Pretty (all linked below).

I even experiment with airbrushing for a subtle aura effect and try simple French tip designs or blooming gel flowers.

For 3D effects, I use moldable hard gel shaped like tiny Play-Doh balls to create cute flower patterns, then top them off with pearls or diamonds for a luxe look.

Finally, a top coat seals everything in, followed by a quick buff to smooth edges and an alcohol spray to clean your teeth.
